The Dean of Postgraduate Studies (PRPG) released, this Monday (July 1st), the names of the winners of the Unicamp 2024 Highlight Thesis Award, awarding a prize and an honorable mention for each of the areas of knowledge: engineering and technological; human sciences and arts; exact and earth sciences; and biological and health sciences. In its second edition, the award sought to recognize and recognize outstanding doctoral theses defended in the University's postgraduate programs, in addition to stimulating the constant search for excellence in research.
Theses defended in 2022, as long as they were approved in 2023, and theses defended in 2023, as long as they were approved by 31/03/2024, participated in the dispute. They were evaluated according to the criteria of originality, relevance to scientific, technological, cultural and social development, methodology used, quality of writing and structure/organization of the text.
For the dean of Postgraduate Studies, Rachel Meneguello, the Unicamp Highlight Thesis Award not only celebrates the individual merit of researchers, but also the significant impact of their research on society and the scientific community. “Each of the theses represents not only an advancement in the specific field of study, but also a valuable contribution to global knowledge.” She also highlights “the academic excellence of the University itself, reinforcing its commitment to cutting-edge research and the training of highly qualified professionals”.
Meguello states that the award honors the winners, while “inspiring the entire academic community at Unicamp to continue seeking excellence and innovation in their research, reaffirming the University's role as a center for high-level knowledge production”.
The selection of winners took place in two stages. The first round was carried out by evaluation committees established by the postgraduate programs of each teaching and research unit, which chose only one thesis to participate in the award. The chosen works were then screened by the award's judging committees – made up of a Unicamp professor and at least two internal or external professors.
The award has two types of prize: a special thesis award for first place with a net value of R$5 and an honorable mention for second place with a net value of R$3. Authors, supervisors and co-supervisors of the awarded theses will receive an award diploma.
