The Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) has released the list of the ten projects selected in Call for Proposals No. 11/2025. CAPES/Brafagri ProgramAmong the approved proposals is the project led by Prof. Dr. Guilherme Miranda Tavares, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Food Engineering (FEA) at Unicamp. The selection reaffirms Unicamp's excellence in key areas of this strategic partnership between Brazil and France. The start of activities is scheduled for January 2026.
The approval of this project carries special symbolism and a seal of technical quality. Professor Guilherme Tavares has an academic trajectory intrinsically linked to Franco-Brazilian cooperation. A Food Engineer from the Federal University of Viçosa, Tavares experienced firsthand the benefits of academic exchange: during his undergraduate studies, he was a scholarship recipient of the program itself. CAPES/Brafagri Program, specializing in Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Agronomie et des Industries Alimentaires (RESAIA), in Nancy.
His connection with France continued during his Master's degree, which he completed in Western Agrocampus (Rennes), and in the PhD in Food Science by French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE), also in Rennes. Currently, as a lecturer at FEA/Unicamp working in the Postgraduate Program in Food ScienceHe leads research on the industrial properties of food proteins and will now coordinate new opportunities for the next generation of researchers.
What is the CAPES/Brafagri Program?
The Program consists of university partnerships that foster the exchange of students and researchers, encouraging the alignment of curricular structures and the mutual recognition of credits between Brazilian and French institutions. The central objective is to increase the quality of academic training through international mobility. In the context of this new call for proposals, the partnership involves prestigious French institutions, such as... AgroParisTech, L'Institut Agro e Oniris.
The call for proposals foresees a robust investment to strengthen internationalization. The total allocated to the selected projects could reach R$ 48 million. The selection of Professor Guilherme Tavares not only puts Unicamp in the spotlight on the international stage, but also opens doors for our students to have access to the same opportunities.
