Dr. Denise Pires de Carvalho is a physician, researcher, and full professor at the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics, with a long history in science and higher education management in Brazil. First woman to assume the Rectorship of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.She also served as Secretary of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education (SESu/MEC) before becoming president of CAPES in 2024. A member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the National Academy of Medicine (ANM), she focuses her work on strengthening national research, postgraduate studies, and scientific innovation.
